As mentioned previously, here are the three free snapshots from the anime given away in the first press edition of Vol 44. The first photo here is the scene when Fuji happened to be outside the hospital where Tezuka was receiving treatment for his arm and they were walking home at that time. I remember that this happened during their second year in winter so that explains the coats they were wearing. I might have to watch the episode again to recall what they chatted about during this journey home. Among the three photos, this is my No.1 favourite.
And this photo shows Echizen and Kevin together when they are in US where Echizen is preparing to take part in the US Open. I think this scene happens to be when Kevin is bringing Echizen around to see the court he will be playing on. I don't dislike them at all but the fact remains that I like the older guys better. These two feel more like younger brothers to me so my passion for them is not as strong as my top favourites. Kevin was quite irritating initially when he kept saying that he wants to take revenge on Echizen before the US-Japan match arc but after that, he became more likeable, at least to me.
Last but not least, the Year 1 version of Fuji Shuusuke in a very kawaii form. He's always smiling so much that his eyes cannot be seen. When you see his eyes, that's usually when he gets angry. If I'm not wrong, this should be the scene when Tezuka was being bullied by the seniors to clean up the courts after practice and Fuji came to help him along with the other regulars like Oishi, Inui and Taka-san. I can't remember whether Eiji had joined the tennis club at that time though. Tezuka did try to reject Fuji's help because he didn't want them to be implicated but Fuji's persuasion ruled in the end.
More photos and content from Vol 44 in time to come. I might as well dig out the earlier volumes of the DVD and do features on them since I've got first press editions from Vol 33 onwards and some of the earlier volumes before that.

Echizen Ryoma's mini album
According to the NEC Interchannel website, the last CD release this year would be Echizen Ryoma's mini album released in conjunction with his birthday and Christmas. Well, I'll probably await more details on this release before deciding whether to get it. Meanwhile, there are no further details on Taka-san's album due on 19 Oct and Tezuka's birthday single due next week. I'm eagerly anticipating the birthday single to arrive after next week since the release date is on a Friday and I'm not sure if the single will be shipped before then.

Otanjoubi Omedetou, Shishido & Bane-chan!
It's rare to have two Tenipuri characters celebrating their birthdays on the same day and Shishido and Kurobane aka Bane-chan happen to be the two. Well, let me start off with Shishido first. Frankly speaking, I think Shishido looks better after he cut his hair in front of Sakaki, Ootori and Atobe to prove his determination to win after losing to Tachibana. After seeing his wonderful teamwork with Ootori in the Kantou first round against Inui and Kaidou, he struck me as a very determined person who is not afraid of hard work. Shishido and Ootori work well together because Shishido is tough and hardworking while Ootori is kind, gentle and talented. Besides, they have gone through a lot together so the trust they have in each other is very strong. Although Shishido may appear cold and practical most of the time, his friends understand how he is really like so I guess that's why Ootori can get along well with him. This also provides more material for the yaoi fans who loves to put them together. ^__^ He seems really shy when it comes to attention from the opposite sex like how he blushed in the movie during the matchmaking game when he found that the girls all chose him. Well, that machine blew up in the end thus signifying that the result wasn't accurate but Shishido's reaction was so interesting especially when Sengoku teased him that the result was due to the machine's fault. Hyotei is still in the Nationals though but I wonder if Shishido and Ootori will continue to play in the doubles since the lineup for the recent Nationals clash with Seigaku seem to be rather jumbled.
Bane-chan is also part of another famous combination with Davide where he always bashes the latter for spouting senseless jokes. He's similar to Shishido in a sense in terms of their serious nature. The only difference between the two friends would be Bane-chan has to practically "babysit" Davide and stop him from joking too much while in Shishido's case, Ootori seems to be the one who has to restrain him from going to extremes. As Bane-chan has only appeared in one match during the anime, I don't have a deep impression of his playing skills but since their doubles match with Taka-san and Momo during the Kantou semi-finals focused on a power match, Bane-chan gave me the idea that his shots are full of energy and the playing style seems very aggressive. It's a pity that Rokkaku has lost in the manga so I won't be seeing Bane-chan there.

Tenipuri DVD Vol 44 received
Finally, my long-awaited copy of Vol 44 is here! I must say that FedEx is driving me nuts with the declaration process which results in further delay when receiving my article. I do not have any grouses with regards to HMV Japan's service but the fact that they are using FedEx is making me rethink whether to get my DVDs from CD Japan or other sources. To think that I started to use HMV Japan because its shipping is handled by a professional courier services company where I can also arrange for delivery at night. However, the distress and trouble of going through that hassle just to receive my DVDs is too much. Vol 45 will be the last release of the Tenipuri DVDs and I must think of whether I want to stick to HMV Japan for the earlier DVDs which I have not purchased yet. There's also the fan disc to be released in Dec to think of. Or I would buy CDs from them and switch over to CD Japan for the DVDs instead since the latter uses EMS which does not require any declaration. The drawback is that I have to go back to the post office to collect the item or ask for re-delivery at a later date but I have my horror experiences with regards to this option too when they messed up a number of my deliveries.
OK, I'll stop my complaining and get down to the details of this DVD. There are 3 snapshots of the anime as usual for the first press DVD where there's one of Tezuka & Fuji, one of the younger version of Fuji at Year 1 and a picture of Echizen and Kevin. Since the cover is of Rikkai, the poster is of course featuring the 8 of them. I'll probably scan the photos and photos at a later date. Besides that, there is also a writeup of the relationship between Tezuka & Fuji. Last but not least, the interviews of the Rikkai seiyuus are also there. Frankly speaking, the Tezuka & Fuji match was very exciting until the end when it soured and thus defeating the title of that episode, "Climax". Refer to my previous post in March for my writeup if you are interested to read more.

Sanada's 2nd single on Oricon weekly chart
Finally, an official word from NEC Interchannel on the results of Sanada Genichirou's 2nd single, Keep Going On released earlier this month. I'm very happy to know that it has gotten No.32 on the weekly singles chart given that anime character singles usually don't get such high positions but it seems that the recent Tenipuri CD releases have been doing very well. Next, we'll have Shishido Ryo's first solo and birthday single at the end of this week, Tezuka's new single on his birthday and Taka-san's first solo album in Nov. I'll be anticipating how well they would do on the charts then. I've already ordered Tezuka's single but I'm still thinking of what to do about Taka-san's album. I think Kawamoto Naru sings pretty well and I really like his single, "Asobi ni Ikanai?" which I kept hearing on Rajipuri. Besides, it seems that there are lots of other Tenipuri characters singing together with him in this album e.g. Kiuchi Hidenobu who appears as Taka-san's father instead of Oshitari. Well, it will be strange if Taka-san and Oshitari sings a duet though. Maybe when I get more details on the contents of the album, I will make my decision by then.

Otanjoubi Omedetou, Akaya-kun!
Today's the birthday of Kirihara Akaya and I almost forgot about this if not for the birthday reminder which I set up in my email. Thankfully, I managed to find time to submit this post before his birthday ends.
The first time when Akaya appeared was when he overslept on the bus and came to Seigaku by chance. He created a bit of trouble when he challenged Tezuka to a match and the latter ignored his taunts. The funny part was when he aimed a shot at one of the Seigaku members and created a chain reaction affecting others before running away. That encounter made me feel that he's a cute and harmless guy.
However, when he appeared again, he seemed to have gone through a total change and looked so ruthless and wicked especially when his eyes turn bloodshot red. Actually, given his skills, he could have beaten Tachibana without playing dirty tricks by attacking the latter's injured foot. I almost had the urge to strangle Akaya during his match with Fuji during the Kantou Final but he became very likeable after that especially during the Senbatsu camp.
As he is the only 2nd year member in the Rikkai team, everyone practically babysits and pampers Akaya. No doubt he has always wanted to beat the 3 monsters of Rikkai e.g. Yukimura, Sanada and Yanagi, I think he also admires them for their skills and views them as his idols. That is why he listens to their advice and they care a lot for him too.
Well, he is not actually a baddie after all. It's probably due to the fact that his insistence on winning gets the better of his logic at times so he may resort to drastic measures to win. That is why I'm glad the anime gave him a chance to redeem himself. As for the manga, there isn't the Senbatsu arc so we'll only get to see him in the Nationals, that is if Rikkai does get featured. I have a hunch that Seigaku might meet Rikkai again in the final or else both teams will never get to play together until then. Now that their captains are back, it should be more interesting than the Kantou Final.

Fan Disc: The Best and the Brightest Remix
HMV is the first to list the fan disc vol 5 on its website for ordering. Being the Tenipuri fanatic who had been checking the various online merchants for this item, I have already purchased this item today which is due for release on 23 Dec. I'm amending my post made just 10 minutes back because I saw this item being listed on Bandai Visual's website where the contents of this DVD are listed. The bulk of the content has to do with the Senbatsu arc so I'll definitely get to see Atobe & Sanada plus a special feature on Tezuka's return!! I'm so excited over this because the three of them happen to be my favourites in Tenipuri!!
As usual, the first press gets 3 photos of the characters which is usually in gloss and I always have a fun time trying to guess who will be on them. They always list that the normal press has liner notes but I never got these from some of the older volumes of the DVD which I'm purchasing to complete my collection.
The match highlights include the following:
Kantou final: Echizen vs Sanada
Senbatsu Camp:
-Fuji & Saeki vs Inui & Yanagi
-Oshitari & Amane vs Ibu & Shinjou
-Kikumaru & Ootori vs Oishi & Shishido
Japan Jr Senbatsu team vs US matches:
- Doubles 2 (Sanada & Atobe)
- Singles 3 (Sengoku)
- Singles 1 (Kirihara --> Echizen)
I'm happy to see Sanada & Atobe's Doubles 2 match but I surely wouldn't mind seeing their impromptu match during the Senbatsu camp too. I also wonder why Fuji's Singles 2 match was not included since that was pretty interesting too. That also brings to ask why Oshitari and Eiji's Doubles 1 match was not included but I guess I can't see everything in just one DVD of 80 minutes.
Besides the above, there's a special highlight segment of Tezuka's return, chibi characters highlights and special clips, Seigaku regular seiyuus interviews and ending credits images not included in previous DVD releases.
Since there's a fan disc specially for the Senbatsu arc, the only arc that does not have a fan disc release would be the Seigaku ranking matches which we had very mouth-watering matches like Tezuka vs Fuji. Will we ever get this as a special DVD release?
Since the Senbatsu arc features the cream of the crop from each school, I think I can understand why the title of this fan disc is "The Best and the Brightest Remix".

Fan Disc Vol 5 to be out in Dec
I read from the latest issue of Shonen Jump that there will be a new fan disc DVD released on 23 Dec which should be under Bandai Visual. However, there are no further details like the title and contents since it is mentioned that more information will be announced in the future issues of Shonen Jump. This is the second fan disc to be released this year and I'm really curious as to what will be in store. It will be a great Christmas present to be able to watch the Tenipuri characters and hear the seiyuus again. I guess Seigaku will be out in full force so the main question is which of the rival schools will be featured. And another topic of concern would be how the cover of the DVD box looks like. I also wonder if there are any freebies given along with the first press which usually comes with snapshots of the characters.
By the way, Vol 44's DVD will be released next week and I can't wait to get this since the cover features the Rikkai team. How time flies. Next month will be the final DVD release and that has some special contents since there are only 2 episodes in that DVD.

Tenipuri Calendar from Try-X
Apparently, besides the Shueisha version which I have already purchased, there's another version from Try-X based on the anime which I only saw this week on CD Japan under their Calendar 2006 promotion. Well, there were 2 versions from Try-X last year but I guess since the anime ended in March, they decided it was better to launch one version only. Anyway, I've already ordered this version too but this will be released about one month later as compared to Shueisha's version based on the manga to be released on 7 Oct which is Tezuka's birthday. Of course, it is extremely unlikely that I will get it on the release date though. I didn't buy Shueisha's version last year since I already had my hands full trying to buy Try-X's 2 versions so I have no idea how the quality is like. According to the description, this year's calendar can be used on the table and is a weekly rip-off type. It's kind of vague and I wonder how the actual size is like since there are no measurements on the website. I have no idea how big B2, A2 etc is so giving the measurements in cm would allow me to judge in a better way.
Going out of topic for now, I see that Sanada's single got No.12 on CD Japan's weekly anime CD charts. NEC Interchannel might have information on its Oricon ranking by next week so I'm hoping for a Top 50 if not Top 100 entry for his single.

Sanada Genichirou's 2nd single, Keep Going On
Received the CDs from HMV Japan today which is the release date of Sanada Genichirou's 2nd single, "Keep Going On". I bought 2 CDs in this package which includes both singles of Gen-chan and his first single was Meisei. And I happened to get the first press for Meisei while the 2nd single's first press is the only version which will be published so if it goes out of stock, NEC Interchannel will not reprint it.
Talking about this new single, as seen from the cover I scanned, it shows him not in tennis wear or a school uniform but a formal vest-suit. Well, he already looks mature in the first place so this picture makes him more like a grown-up. Since the single is only selling for 700 plus yen, there's only one song, "Keep Going On", the karaoke version and a short talk clip of 50 plus seconds. I would have hoped that he can talk more but I can't grumble too much since it's been some time since I heard Kusunoki-san's voice. In the talk section, he mainly talks about Seigaku and Hyotei in another block so Rikkai can't meet them yet during the Nationals unless they are in the final. He also does a little impersonation of Atobe's famous line, "oresama no bigi ni yoina" to make fun of him. In the end, he concludes that Rikkai would love to have a match with Seigaku again so that he can defeat Echizen as revenge for the Kantou final. Oh, if that comes true, it would be very mouth-watering but I surely won't mind if Sanada ends up having a match with Tezuka instead of Echizen.
The song, "Keep Going On" is very catchy and a fast number which gets your adrenaline pumping. At least when I ran the CD for the first time, it left a better impression than "Meisei" which I only grew to like after repeated listenings. It also seems like Kusunoki-san has improved in singing or should I say that the song has brought out the plus points in his vocals?
As for Meisei, this is a slow number which mainly talks about the pride of champions and how they desire victory. Talk section is much longer than the 2nd single and this is to be expected since it costs more. As for the cover design, I think that the 2nd single looks better because the 1st single made Sanada look kind of weird and fiercer than usual. Maybe it's because the 1st single was released under a bulk series but the 2nd single was released as a single item so I guess that is where the difference lies in.

Otanjoubi Omedetou, Gak-kun!
Today is Mukahi Gakuto's birthday so here's a short feature of him. Well, I must say that my first impression of him wasn't too good because he struck me as an arrogant brat when he challenged Eiji in acrobatics during the Doubles 2 match in Kantou's 1st round. Somehow, I didn't like his hairstyle too which made him a bit feminine so that put me off further. However, his pairing up with Oshitari does seem suitable since Gakuto is more of the rash type while Oshitari seems cool and collected. I guess that complements each other's faults and makes them a stronger pair. In the end, he came off as a more interesting character when I saw him again during Seigaku's training camp at Karuizawa especially during the match with Momo.
He doesn't appear as much as the No.1 and No.2 of Hyotei in the anime but most of the time, when there's Gakuto, there's always Yuushi. Hearing them call each other by the first name speaks volumes of the depth of their friendship. At least I don't hear Atobe call most of his members by first name with the exception of Jiro. Gakuto reminds me of a child who hasn't grown up at times and if I compare him with Echizen, I think the latter can pass off as someone who's older than Gakuto if he puts on his cool face.
When I heard the name Gakuto for the first time, it got me rather amused as I kept thinking of the singer, Gackt. The pronunciation is the same so I wonder if Konomi-sensei did this on purpose. Nevertheless, I can never associate Gakuto with the real-life Gackt since they are so different. ^__^

Manga Vol 29 and 30
Vol 29 (Zengoku Kaimaku) is mainly on Tezuka's return to Seigaku and the start of the Nationals. Some of the members from the rival teams are shown during the drawing of lots for the first round and frankly speaking, there aren't many characters who caught my eye at first glance. In fact, some of them look downright evil especially those from Higa Chuu. Currently, some of those whom left a rather strong impression on me would be Shiraishi Kuranosuke and Oshitari's cousin, Kenya. Chitose looks cool too. Anyway, nothing beats seeing Tezuka again as well as my darling Gen-chan and Atobe-sama! Where is Yukimura though? I think he's still trying to regain his fitness after the operation so that's why Renji came with Genichirou for the drawing of lots.
Since Seigaku doesn't need to play in the first round, we get to see Rokkaku play Higa from Okinawa. However, those scumbags really got on my nerves so much that I really wanted to tear them apart. I think they must be the most disliked team in my list now and this title originally belonged to Jousei Shonan. Well, regardless of the outcome, Higa and Rokkaku have to play all 5 matches because this is the first round. It was quite unexpected to see Rokkaku lose so miserably which simply says that Higa is too good for them. Otherwise, there's no reason why Rokkaku would be beaten so easily given that Seigaku had a tough fight with them during the Kantou semi-finals. By the way, the format of the matches are different now. The singles and doubles matches are played one after another instead of the doubles matches first which is apparently a rule at the Nationals.
Results of the first round (Higa Vs Rokkaku)
Singles 3 Chinen Hiroshi Vs Aoi Kentarou (6-0)
Doubles 2 (6 - 2)
Singles 2 (6 - 0)
Doubles 1 (6 - 0)
Singles 1 Kai Yuujirou Vs Saeki Kojiro (6-4)
In Singles 1, Saeki noticed that Kai was covering so much ground within a short time and misunderstood that he seems to be able to shorten the court area. However, Oji pointed out that Higa's players were just able to play tricks on their eyes due to the use of gravity in the "Shukuchihou" (meaning "Reducing the area" and ended up being hit with a ball by Kai on purpose. As the rest of the team had followed Oji to the hospital, Seigaku members decided to be Saeki's cheering team which spoke volumes of the friendship between the two teams. Although Rokkaku had no chance of making it to Round 2 to face Seigaku, Saeki fought on bravely to finish the match.
Given that Seigaku saw how despicable Higa could get, the tension mounted as Echizen prepared for his Singles 3 match against the big-built Tanishi Kei. Although Echizen managed to grab a game using Twist Serve and Drive C. (Frankly speaking, I'm not too sure how Drive A, Drive C and Cool Drive work but I do remember Drive B as it's commonly used and seems very realistic to be used in real life.) However, Tanishi kept his service game with his huge serve, Big Bun which became more powerful because of his build. Vol 29 ended at 2 games a piece so we will see the conclusion in Vol 30.
In Vol 30 (Goya Kirai), the focus is on the Singles 3 and Doubles 2 matches. Echizen and Tanishi are locked in a service game battle where they keep their service games and have to settle the match through a tiebreaker. As the Higa team and even Tanishi himself believes that Echizen has no strength to withstand Big Bun, they fail to realise that Echizen has been aiming for the perfect timing to get a return ace when the power of Big Bun drops after repeated use. Earlier on in the match, Echizen had already said that he will win the match once he gets the return ace and Higa takes him too lightly. As such, he wins the tie-break at 9-7 which results in a final score of 7-6 in Seigaku's favour.
Doubles 2 begins with Fuji and Kawamura going against Hiragoba Rin and Chinen Hiroshi. Hiragoba looks kind of cool but I don't like his character. He had the cheek to attack Ryuuzaki-sensei with a tennis ball but Taka-san managed to block the shot for her. In retalliation, Momo and Echizen hit balls at Higa's coach who really looks like a strict coach and a scumbag rolled into one. I doubt his players like him anyway. Anyway, Hiragoba's action makes Fuji angry and we all know Fuji cannot antagonised. Remember Mizuki and Kirihara when they got on Fuji's nerves? Well, this Hiragoba is not a simple guy as he manages to stop Fuji and Taka-san from using their famous moves, "Higuma Otoshi" and "Hadokyuu" with just two moves. That is why Fuji knows that he has to do something different in order to win the match. Hiragoba then launches his attack with his Habu (literal meaning, spoon) which makes it hard for the Seigaku duo to react since the ball's revolution/spin is more complicated than ever seen. When Hiragoba decides to deliver the fatal blow to the Seigaku team with a Oo Habu (Big Spoon), Fuji retalliates with his new fourth counter, "Kagerou Zutsumi" (Trapping the fly) which absorbs the complicated spin and returns it in the form of a no-spin shot (similar to Sinker which Itsuki used before). As what Tezuka said, Hiragoba could have won the match with his Habu but he underestimated Fuji who can always come up with surprises to outsmart the opponent. Fuji is a deep guy who devises increasingly complicated moves. Initially, it was Tsubame Gaeshi, then Higuma Otoshi, Hakugei and the cut serve. Now there's another animal to remember, Kagerou Tsutsumi. What a name but it definitely sounds better than Big Bun or Habu! ^__^
In Vol 30, there are two major announcements where I had mentioned before that there is going to be an OVA and a real-life movie. There aren't further details on the movie but with regards to the OVA, it seems like it's not going to be shown on TV but will be sold on DVD. I'm definitely going to get it when it is expected to be released in Mar 06. I wonder if I can get it before my birthday at the end of March.
As for 30.5, it's going to be an illustration book instead of the data-intensive versions for 10.5 and 20.5. I guess that's probably because of the Nationals being at the early stage so there isn't much to add on for the rival teams yet. Anyway, it seems like it will be released on the same day as Vol 31 which is 2 Dec so I have to keep a lookout for it soon.

Tenipuri OVA and real-life movie
Well, this was the headlines on the cover of Vol 30 which I bought today. Although I'm terribly excited at the OVA which means the return of my favourite seiyuus and getting to see the characters again, I can't say the same for the real-life movie. According to Konomi-sensei, the OVA should be on the Nationals arc so we might get to see the new opponents instead of the existing rival schools. Besides, an OVA does not allow too much content so some of the matches might be summarised while others get more attention. Of course, being the lead character, Echizen is probably going to take up most of the airtime but I still hope for very interesting line-ups against the various opponents. I guess the decision to make the OVA was due to fans' requests as many of us would want to see the Nationals arc being made into the anime format so that's why this was confirmed in just 6 months after the anime series finished in March. The issue of concern now is when this will be shown and of course which are the characters involved. Rikkai might not be involved, even if Hyotei is shown, I think Atobe would do most of the talking. I am still thinking of the dream match between Atobe and Tezuka or Sanada vs Tezuka, Yukimura vs Tezuka...
By the way, I happened to read the latest issue of Shonen Jump today in Kinokuniya where Tezuka is in Singles 2 with Kabaji. Why wouldn't Konomi-sensei let Atobe and Tezuka have a repeat match and give Tezuka a chance to take revenge? Well, the chapter I read was about how Tezuka was having trouble with Kabaji who even imitated his Tezuka-zone to perfection. Wow, that's kind of tricky for Tezuka-bucchou since Kabaji is very good at observing and then using the same tactics against the opponent. It's as if fighting against yourself. However, Tezuka seems to have something up his sleeve and in the next chapter, we find out what went on during his stay in Kyushu when he met a little girl.
Talking about the real-life movie, the reason why I'm not too enthusiastic about this would be the problem of casting. How do you find suitable actors to play Tezuka, Sanada, Atobe or even Echizen? Bear in mind, these characters are only junior high students so it doesn't make sense to get adult actors to play them. It just won't be convincing. Changing the age or setting of the movie just won't do too. I really hate to spoil the image of my beloved characters through this real-life movie and I can already anticipate myself comparing and criticising the movie as well as the actors well before it has been made. Call me pessimistic if you want but this kind of bishonen sports manga/anime just doesn't seem too suitable for a real-life movie. For example, it's hard to imagine Fullmetal Alchemist being made into a real-life movie but Hachikuro can be achieved. The only person whom I can think of to play a Tenipuri character would probably Matsuoka Masahiro as Momoshiro. They look pretty similar (with the spiky hair combed upwards) and their mannerisms seem almost the same. However, he's already in his late 20s and I simply cannot associate him as a junior high kid. On the other hand, it's hard to find a credible and well-known cast of actors in their teens to play the characters since you definitely need stars who can pull crowds into the cinemas. That is why I still feel that watching the anime movie is much much better than having a real-life one since you get to see the characters as they are and hear the wonderful voices of the seiyuus. I crave for originality and don't like such surprises which may turn out to be shocks in the end.
Actually, there were rumours about a real-life movie long ago but I had been praying hard that it would not come true. Give me any amount of the OVAs or anime version movies and I'll be very excited to support it at full cost but I simply do not want to see real-life characters. Please don't destroy my wonderful image of the anime and the characters! However, given that the announcement has been made, I can only keep my fingers crossed and hope that Konomi-sensei can take an active role in the casting so as to ensure that the actors chosen will fit the characters he has created.

Sanada's new single cover
NEC Interchannel has finally uploaded this new single's cover and it seems like the character singles recently show the various characters in casual clothing rather than school uniforms. Well, I'm happy with that and won't be making any complaints on this though. In this case, Sanada is wearing a suit and this makes him more mature-looking (well, he looks mature in the first place) than before. There's only one song but there will be a talk section in this CD so I can't really grumble. I am still hoping for the day where my Gen-chan will release an album but when will this day arrive.
By the way, Sengoku's single got Oricon No.28 so I'm keeping my fingers crossed for Gen-chan to get into the Top 30 when his turn comes.

Rajipuri # 1 - 3 Apr 03
Decided to start writing reviews on the Rajipuri series so I'll start with the debut O.A. on 3 Apr 03 where the monthly personalities were Minagawa Junko (Echizen Ryoma) and Suwabe Junichi (Atobe Keigo) but Suwabe-san wasn't present.
Guests: Okiayu Ryotaro (Tezuka Kunimitsu), Kaida Yuki (Fuji Shusuke), Suzuki Chihiro (Kamio Akira), Toriumi Kosuke (Sengoku Kiyosumi)
OP: Never End by Echizen Ryoma
ED: White Line by Aozu
According to the seiyuus, they took part in various sports clubs during their junior high school days. Minagawa and Toriumi were in the volleyball team but Toriumi left within one semester. Okiayu was in the basketball team but he left too in the first semester. Kaida was in the badminton team while Suzuki is the only one who has played tennis. According to him, he used to be playing doubles and usually took up the position of the rear guard as he always got hit by the ball when he was in the front. ^__^
Pin-Point Smash: Minagawa Junko
This is the segment where the picked seiyuu has to answer 10 questions with YES/NO with comments and "sarcasm" from the others during the process.
-Minagawa and Ryoma are similar: YES
-Popular among guys in school: YES
-Good in studies: YES
-Has confidence in singing abilities: NO
-Has abilities/tricks unrivalled by others: YES
-Prefers cats to dogs: NO
-Good at tennis: NO
-Have felt that she is far from it at times i.e. mada mada dane: YES
-Has some grouses with regards some seiyuus: YES
-Feels that Konomi Takeshi-sensei is cool: YES
Well, according to Minagawa, she answered some of the questions in haste so didn't understand them properly at all e.g. the second question when she thought it was referring to popularity among guys and girls.
Seishun Gakuen Kounai Housou (Seigaku School Radio Programme)
Host: Echizen Ryoma / Guests: Kamio Akira and Sengoku Kiyosumi
Well, this is a short skit where the characters talk in the setting of a lunchtime radio programme in Seigaku. The ending song for this segment is PERFECT GAME by Kamio Akira.
Tenipuri Senryuu: A segment where they have short phrases about the various Tenipuri characters and they are mostly humourous in nature. Since this was the debut OA, the listeners had not written in yet so the staff came up with a few. The one which caught my eye most would be the one about wanting to see Tezuka-bucchou slip and fall. ^__^ Ending song for this segment is Trial of Luck by Sengoku Kiyosumi.
Finally, we have the shiritori game between Tezuka and Fuji where the latter won. This is going to appear regularly in the future episodes and Fuji won a number of times if my memory did not fail me.

DVD Vol 44 Cover
Oh yeah, at long last! I finally get to confirm my guess and true enough, Vol 44's cover is the Rikkai team and it looks very nice. I'm biased towards them but there are occassions where certain characters don't look as good in a group photo so I'm particularly concerned about this volume's image. Now that I have finally seen the cover, this will no doubt increase my anticipation for this title which will be released in 20 days' time. Well, it's not as if I won't buy the DVD if the cover isn't of Rikkai. Renji's hair seems a bit weird as if the volume has increased while Jackal looks so innocent when he sits beside Bunta. Akaya is in the centre which is representative of the "protection" he is given by his seniors. Niou and Yagyuu are standing together and there's no surprise for putting Sanada and Yukimura together. Counting down to the release date on 23 Sep...
Fanbook 30.5 and Vol 30 of Manga
Finally, there's news of Fanbook 30.5 and I happened to read it on NEC Interchannel's website. However, there is no mention of the actual release date so I would have to keep my eyes open for this item. Since Vol 31 of the manga is expected in Dec, 30.5 should be out latest by Nov. Well, if it's out in Oct, I wouldn't mind too.
And I actually forgot to buy Vol 30 which was released yesterday. I must have been too caught up with other things and focusing on the Rajipuri CDs that I didn't keep track of the release date. Vol 30 is the Higa arc where that school actually beat Rokkaku very easily and Seigaku has to deal with a bigger guy than Kabaji or even that Jousei Shonan giant (forgot his name). I will have to refresh my memory by reading Vol 29 again and get Vol 30 from Kinokuniya next week.

Rajipuri CD Releases
Received the CDs on Wed but one of them (Atobe & Tezuka's CD) is badly cracked. I have contacted HMV Japan on this but they have yet to revert to me on this matter. The longer this drags, the more worried I become because the Rajipuri series are selling fast. What if they cannot replace the same item for me? That's why I am prepared to hold on to the defective case in the event that they cannot find a replacement for me because I'm not going to return the CD to them for nothing. I just hope that they can revert to me soon or else the possibility of getting a new item would be close to zero.
The Sanada and Tezuka CD cover was a surprise for me since the NEC Interchannel website did not display it. Well, I'm happy to see them appearing on the same picture but their postures and the way the hands are drawn i.e. them holding a MP3 player seem kind of weird. Anyway, there are a number of pictures of them in the CD sleeve and hearing their voices is a huge attraction for me so I'm prepared to forgive the not-so-impressive cover image. Actually, the two CDs do not include the entire programmes of the months they were main personalities for but rather, selected segments were included and songs were omitted. Nevertheless, the CD sleeve does include a full breakdown of the segments and item they did for each episode and mentioned the taglines they said.
Vol 44's cover is still not displayed on Bandai Visual's website to date but it will be in another 21 days when I receive it. No matter what, I still hope to see the cover before the release date to confirm my guess that the cover is a Rikkai one. Gen-chan's second single will also be released this month so this is going to be a Rikkai month for me.
